Sugar in The Cup.
Lmat week 530 Kaneaus visited Rock
Ford to learn something more about the
beet sugar industry, on which they are
bqinning to experiment, and while they
vote prohibition at home, nine of them
got in the calaboose and many others
had to be aided in finding their way back
to the train, which was delayed an hour
in completing the round up for home.
But they were bound to find the bottom
of the cup in order to test the sugar•--

Air And Artificial Light.
Some investigations made by a wall-
known medical authority on the subject
of ventilation have furnished interesting
partiou|ars concerning the effect of arti-
ficial light on the air of our rooms. A
man might exist for an hour in a fair.
sized room hermetically sealed, if he had
no light burning. Place a lightedcandle
in thtt room with him and his existence
will be shortened by fifteen minutes; if
he had a lamp instead of a candle, in or-
darto make himself more comfortable
with additional light, he would only live
half sn hour; and if he had two goodgas-
burners he would scarcely have" time to
nl~e his will, for he would not live more
than tire minutes. It therefore follows
that we should take the precaution to
have more ventilation as soon as we
"light up.'--Exchange.
The Care Of The Hands in Gold Weather.
Any extreme temperature, or either
volt hot or very cold water, is not good
for the hands. Warm water is more
cleaning than cold water. A dozen
drotm ot the tincture of benzoin added
to s buin of warm water is beneficial to
the hsndL Castile or one of the fine
toilet 8caps should be used. A generous
lather should be made and the hands
thoroughly rubbed with it. A rubber
flesh-brush is a great comfort. A little
bran or oatmeal if put in the water has
$ mofuming effect, and makes the skin
re|very and pliable• Almond meal ~m
mmellant for this purpose. Care in
drytl~ the hands ie essential to their
tlood condition, especially in winter. A
~t towel will gather up all the moisture
and should be used in between the fingers
of mmh hand so that every part may be
thorooghly dried. After drying the
hands it is s good plan to rub in a little
cold ~m or almond oil, after which, if
they are lmrtioularly sensitive, powder
~ b~ dusted over them.--December

Attorney General Post has forwarded
to Washington his brief in the suit
brought against Colorado by Kansas, in-
volving the waters of the Arkansas river.
In his brief Attorney General Post de-
nies that Kansas ever had common law
riparian rights. He points out that Kan-
sas herself uses the water for irrigation,
end that if Colorado be forbidden to use
the water, then Kansas could as well be
restrained by the state next below her on
the stream.

of these, known as the Leadville sheet,
shows the mimng country surrounding
